KOTA(ex-Christian Death) will DJ at the world's biggest Gothic festival WAVE-GOTIK-TREFFEN in Leipzig,Germany in May 2024.

A huge music festival held in Germany in early summer. Japanese artist KOTA will appear as a DJ at WAVE-GOTIK-TREFFEN, a festival where Goth and Dark Wave Music artists and fans gather from all over the world.

Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) is an annual festival for "dark" music and "dark culture" held in Leipzig, Germany. More than 150 bands and artists from a variety of backgrounds - gothic rock, EBM, industrial, noise, darkwave, neo-folk, neo-classical, medieval music, etc. - perform for four days in various venues throughout the city. There will also be all-night dance club parties, a gothic merchandise fair, various cultural exhibits and performances, and informal fringe events. Restaurants, cafes, tents for overnight stays, and even a day-care center will be set up on site. For four days, the city of Leipzig will be filled with Gothic fans dressed in black for the world's largest Goth festival.

WHAT'S KOTA?

KOTA is a dark electro music DJ and trackmaker. Known as the bassist of Christian Death, was based in London in the 80s. After leaving the band, disappeared for a long time, but suddenly reappeared in 2019 after 30 years and joined Christian Death's UK/EU tour as a supporting member.(At that time, he stood on the WGT stage for the first time.) In 2022, the band performed at the post-punk & new wave festival = CRUEL WORLD FESTIVAL in Los Angeles (PiL Blondie, The Damned, Bauhaus, Morrissey, DEVO and others participated). In recent years, he has started making dark electro tracks and has confirmed that new songs have been released, but he has not been seen in public at all. Once there were rumors that he was involved in anti-government activities in China, which he later categorically denied.

This is the second time that KOTA will perform at WGT since 2019, when he participated as a member of Christian Death. This time, KOTA will not be a band member, but a special guest of DJ DIVA (a leading figure in German dark music), who will DJ on the dance floor at AGRA, one of the main venues. Christian Death has also been announced for WGT 2024 (May 17), and it is unknown if KOTA will be at their show, but there may be some surprises.

CHRISTIAN DEATH

Christian Death is a legendary gothic rock band that started in 1979 and after numerous member changes, is now based in Maine, USA, with Valor and Maitri at the core. There was a dispute over the ownership of the band's name with the past members. KOTA joined the band as bassist while the band was based in London. The band toured extensively in the UK and Europe, and also performed in Eastern Europe, a rarity at the time, including the exile country of Yugoslavia. KOTA's name is credited on albums such as "Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ" (1988), "The Scriptures" (1987/recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, which became legendary as the recording site for great artists such as Queen and was made into a movie), and ZERO SEX.

DJ DIVA

DJ Diva, (Horst Sackreuter) is something of an institution in the German gothic scene. Between 1985 and 2008 he ran one of the best-known booking agencies at the time. And He was in the band "The Eternal Afflict". Since the first Wave Gotik Treffen, he has traditionally played as DJ Diva on the final day of the festival. He has also been DJing at gothic parties in the Ruhr area for years and also had his own party 'GEP' (Gothic Erotic Party).

In 2024, as in previous years, DJ DIVA will be DJing on the final night of the event, and he and KOTA will take turns DJing for 45 minutes. The show will start at 10 PM and continue non-stop until the morning.
